Social Issues

First off, issues are not always bad or contain negative impacts. Forensic Science plays an important role in all societies today. Just imagine life without a system strong enough to catch criminals and put them into jail. Would you feel safe? Without the use of forensics, solving crimes would be nearly impossible. However, ways inside the forensics lab have evolved allowing us all to live in a much more protected environment then previous time. The impacts on society have created effects of positive and integral to law, order and safety of citizens.(C.15)

Ethics

To begin with, what are ethics?

Ethics are rules or standards governing the conduct which one lives by. They are morals and values. Ethics are also believed to help govern one's thought process through right and wrong ways in order to make a decision. (C.16)

So how do ethics impact forensic science?

   ï»¿

Ethics impacts forensic science in the sense that forensics contains a Code of Ethics. In order to achieve the Code of Ethics a criminalist must ask themselves these four questions:

1. What provision is the member accused of violating?
2. What are the criteria for that provision?
3. What are the relevant data?
4. What is the reasoning by which it is determined that the member has or has not violated the specific provision?

These questions acknowledge the criminalist if what he/she is doing is morally right or wrong. Very rarely is it immoral because this criminalist is doing his investigation for a good cause. A criminalist should have respective disciplines while doing their task. (C.17)

Legal Issues

Legal issues of forensic science has been conversational for many years. The largest legal issue that worries society are their rights. Society has a deep feeling that their home should not be invaded nor should they have to give either DNA or a fingerprint to a criminalist. In the constitution, the fourth amendment states, "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized." The fourth amendment is stating that all people do have a right to their property, possessions  etc. but only to a certain extent. The line of their rights stops when a legal issue occurs their things need to be searched or taken in order to help solve a case. (C.18)
